How I keep reading notes
I tried highlighting everything, then nothing, then elaborate index cards. What finally stuck is boring: a pencil, a small mark in the margin, and a page of notes in my own words after each session.
The rewriting matters more than the marking. If I cannot explain a passage without looking at it, I did not understand it yet — and that is usually the part worth reading twice.
